STREAKING: Veteran DUSTIN BRUYERE has points in three of his last five games (0g & 3a)…Winger SHANE GINGERA has goals in two of his last four games and points in five of his last seven games (3g & 2a)…Centre ERIC PUSHKA is second on the team in scoring with 55 points…PARKER THOMAS leads the team in scoring with 70 points and is fourth in the league in points behind three Dauphin Kings. His points-per-game average is 1.3 and the 19-year-old has a team-leading 28 goals in 55 games this season and 26 power play points, including eight goals when his team is on the man advantage. Thomas has twice been named as the league’s PLAYER OF THE MONTH this season (September & December) and in late February was selected as a league First-Team All-Star. He was also one of two runners up to Dauphin’s GUILLAUME NAUD as the league’s MVP this season…Forward BRETT DUDAR has points in 10 of his last 12 games (7g & 13a) but has missed 16 straight games due to injury. He owns a nine-game point scoring streak this season – the longest by a Steeler in 2012-13…MATT GLOWA, JUSTIN DERLAGO and Thomas have all scored goals in five straight games this year…Centre RILEY DERLAGO leads the club in rookie scoring (10g & 13a – 51 games)…JOEL MESSNER leads the team in D-man scoring (5g & 25 pts – 58 games).
INTERESTING: Entering this weekend, the Steelers have lost 14 straight and 19 of their last 21. Over that stretch they have played in five overtime/shootout games, losing the last three. During the 14-game slide the Steelers have been outscored 56-28 and in five of the last nine games have scored one goal or less. The 14-game skid is the longest of the season. They have also lost seven straight at home…The Steelers season-high win streak this season is six. The club’s season-high win streak at home is also six…Selkirk has five empty net goals this winter…The Steelers have been assessed 20 fighting majors through 58 games, including a season-high three on Dec. 9 in STEINBACH…The seven goals the Steelers scored on Dec. 21 in the first period against the Pistons was the largest offensive output in any period for the team this year…The Steelers have three shorthanded goals this season and have allowed six shorties against…The Steelers are 11-11-1 against the SHER-WOOD Division. Last year, they were 18-4 overall against Sher-Wood opponents…The Steelers recorded their first shutout win of the season Dec. 19 (8-0) against NEEPAWA. Selkirk has been shutout once this season (Feb. 6 @ Dauphin, 4-0)…Captain BRENDAN MITCHELL and Messner have played in all 58 games this season…After 58 games last year, the Steelers were 35-21-2…In games that have not been decided in regulation time, Selkirk is 7-5 (2-3, OT; 5-2, SO), but have lost three straight in extra time…Including tonight, Selkirk has two regular season games remaining – both at home…The Steelers magic number to clinch the final playoff spot in the ADDISON Division over Winkler is two. That means any combination of Selkirk wins or Winkler losses equaling two puts the Steelers in the post-season.
GOALTENDING: Brandon product RILEY FESER is 7-12 through 20 appearances with Selkirk. The 20-year-old posts an 3.20 GAA and .908 SV % with the Steelers. Overall this season Feser is 12-18 in 31 appearances with a 3.46 GAA and .879 SV %…TRENT MICHALICK, 19, has appeared in 29 of the club’s 58 games. He is 12-15 on the season (3.29 GAA; .903 SV %) and recorded the club’s only shutout this season (Dec. 19 @ Neepawa).
VS. WAYWAY & WINKLER: To start this weekend’s pair of home games, the Steelers host the WOLVERINES for the second and final time. The Steelers are 1-2 against Wayway this season, winning 6-3 on Oct. 26 at home and losing at Wayway on Oct. 21 (5-2) & Jan. 18 (4-1)…The Steelers and Flyers are even this season against each other with an indentical head-to-head record of 4-4. Selkirk is 2-1 against Winkler here at the Rec.
EXTRA SPECIAL: Selkirk’s power play is 21.90% effective (4th overall). The team’s penalty kill is 11th at 72.20%.
UP NEXT: Selkirk hosts WINKLER on Sunday evening in the finale of the regular season. If not already determined the game will decide which of the two teams clinches the final playoff spot in the Addison Division. If the Steelers are able to qualify for the playoffs, they’ll meet WINNIPEG in the first round starting March 8 at the MTS Iceplex.
