Selkirk, Mb – The Selkirk Steelers announce that 19-year-old forward Hudson Friesen has accepted an NCAA Division I Hockey Scholarship to the University of Alaska-Anchorage of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) for the 2013-2014 season.
Friesen, from Oakbank, Mb recently completed his second season with the Steelers where he finished 1st in team scorind and 2nd in league scoring with 36 goals, 45 assists and 81 points in 61 regular season games. Friesen was also named a Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) 2nd team All-Star.
“On behalf of the entire Selkirk Steelers Junior Hockey Club I would like to congratulate Hudson Friesen on accepting a full scholarship to the University of Alaska-Anchorage. Hudson had an outstanding 2011-12 season and has worked extremely hard towards this goal and will be joining the Seawolves for the 2013-14 season. Hudson made the switch from defence to left wing early in the season and never looked back” says Ryan Smith, Selkirk Steelers Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel.
“Finishing 2nd in the MJHL scoring race and being named a 2nd team All-Star, he showed he was one of the elite players in our league. The Steelers are very proud of Hudson’s achievements so far and know he will continue to have success in his college career”, says Smith.

Friesen is the second Steelers player this off season to accept an NCAA Division 1 Scholarship. In April, Steelers Goaltender Adam Harris accepted a Scholarship to Canisius College (Buffalo, New York) of the Atlantic Hockey Association for the upcoming 2012-2013 season.
