Steelers grad Werbowski accepts CIS Hockey Scholarship

Selkirk, MB – The Selkirk Steelers announce that 20-year-old defenceman Lane Werbowski has accepted a scholarship to the University of Toronto of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) beginning this upcoming 2012-2013 season.

Werbowski, who originates from Winnipeg, Mb came to the Steelers early into the 2010-2011 season from the Penticton Vees of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL).

Werbowski played in 89 regular season and 17 post season games with the Steelers while compiling 15 goals and 65 assists during that time.

“The entire Selkirk Steelers organization would like to congratulate Lane Werbowski on accepting a scholarship to the University of Toronto. Lane will be a welcome addition to the Varsity Blues defence” says Ryan Smith, Steelers Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel.

“Werbs” had an outstanding final season with us to finish his junior career. We leaned on him a lot for playing some big minutes for us. He was excellent in both ends of the rink as his stats show. I believe he will make an immediate impact at the CIS level. We wish him all the best and thank him for his work with the Steelers” says Smith.
